Below is the second part of "The Emperor's New Clothes."
That much must be true, the minister thought. He saw the apple cores, chicken legs, and bits of cheese all over the floor. The thieves had eaten so much already. They must be working hard on something!
"Of course! Such hardworking men deserve a good meal," the confused minister said to the thieves.
With that, the minister hurried off to the royal palace to report back to the emperor. "Your Majesty, I have returned from visiting the tailors. They are still hard at work on your special suit," said the minister.
"Well, what did you think? Is it the most beautiful suit you have ever seen?" asked the emperor, with great excitement.
The minister was embarrassed that he had not seen the fabric. He did not want to appear foolish before the emperor. "Oh, the suit is absolutely splendid! It is the most magnificent piece of clothing I have ever seen!" lied the minister.
"Wonderful! Tell the tailors to finish quickly. I want to wear my new suit as soon as possible," said the emperor.
Finally, the thieves brought the emperor his new suit. They stretched their arms out before him and said, "Behold, sir, the most magnificent suit in all the land!"
The emperor gasped. Truly the suit must be beautiful, he thought, even though he could not see it at all. He put the suit on slowly, being careful not to snag the fine stitching that the tailors described. Then he strutted around the room. He had never before felt so dashing.
"This is truly the finest suit I have ever had," the emperor said to the royal minister. "Tell me, what do you think of it?"
"If you are happy, then I am happy," said the royal minister with a nod. But the minister was anything but happy. In his eyes the emperor was standing in front of a mirror wearing only his underwear, admiring a new suit that was not even there!
The emperor wanted to show off his new suit to everyone in the land. He asked the royal minister to call for a royal parade the next day.
"If that is what you want," said the minister, "then you shall have your parade."
