Critics and fans alike have a hard time labeling Roman Candle. Rolling Stone called them "explosive new country darlings," while other reporters have compared them to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and Elvis Costello. Their music is bursting with a deep blues influence, but it's not far off from pop either.
The band itself prefers to keep things simple -- it's all rock & roll to them.
Skip and Logan Matheny, two brothers from Wilkesboro, North Carolina, founded the group in 1996, with the mission of creating original pure rock. Just like Ben Folds, Squirrel Nut Zippers and Superchunk before them, the band calls Chapel Hill, NC home.
