Brita CBFF-100 Disposable Bathroom Faucet Filtration System
Date Published: 11/21/06
The Brita CBFF-100 is a water filtration system designed specifically for the bathroom faucet. It delivers cleaner, fresh-tasting water for up to one full year, without having to replace any parts.
The compact chrome and black housing attaches directly to most bathroom faucets without any special tools. Installation can be fairly straightforward or it can be tricky, depending on which type of faucet you have and whether you need to use one of the supplied adapters. To determine whether you need an adapter, remove your existing faucet aerator -- the small end piece on the faucet head. If the faucet has threads on the outside, you won't need to use an adapter. If the threads are on the inside of the faucet head, one of the supplied plastic adapters needs to be attached before you can mount the CBFF-100 Filtration System.
Twisting the adapter onto the faucet and then the mounting collar onto the adapter is easy enough; just be sure you have everything tightened firmly or the force of the water will dislodge the filter system. During our initial tests, the system fell off twice before we had it correctly mounted.
Having been designed for the bathroom, this unit is incredibly compact and, because it's mounted under the faucet, the space factor is minimal. This model also has a clever drinking fountain feature, which delivers filtered water in a steady stream projected upward for easy drinking. The stream is activated by pressing down on a bar located toward the back of the unit. Water flows from a fountainhead in a wide or narrow arc, depending on the force of your water.
This unit also has a lever that lets you alternate between filtered and unfiltered water. With the lever up, the water is dispensed from the center of your faucet as usual. With the lever down, a thinner stream of filtered water is dispensed from a side opening-suitable for filling drinking cups. The filter setting should only be used with cold water, since warm water can damage the internal filter components.
Another handy feature is the filter status light, which signals green when the filter is working properly, flashes red when the filter is used up, (after about 50 gallons). At that point, you can just throw the entire unit away. Because it is so compact, it actually creates less waste than the equivalent number of replacement filter cartridges you'd need for the same one year time period.
The Brita Disposable Faucet Filtration System removes 99.99 percent of microbial cysts and reduces lead, asbestos, mercury, chlorine and sediment in your drinking water. The system lasts up to 12 months, or approximately 50 gallons of filtered water.
